Our dryer suddenly stopped working tonight. I can hear the timer ticking (and it moves like the dryer is working), but when I try to push the start button there's nothing. Any suggestions???

Could be the thermal fuse, the one in the motor circuit
Could be the belt switch, if the unit has one |

It is a switch that detects if the belt breaks. It will be down by the motor near the idler arm. Some units have them, some do not.
You did not include a Model Number so I cannot tell if your machine has one. |
