My Whirlpool dryer starts, then after a few seconds squeals very loudly, then stops. I have attached a picture with the back off. I also uploaded a seven second video (if you can stand the noise) at YouTube - Dryer Motor. The motor part # is 3395655, model S58NXMLF-6700. Is that the motor? Can I replace it myself (I am pretty handy)? Is there something else it could be? Thank you in advance... jidteach attached the following image(s):

Were you able to restart the dryer right after it stopped?
Remove the belt and check how the motor moves in both directions manually.
Post the complete model number of the unit.

...There is only a model number on the washer section of the unit... James, You have to do it with heat "on" The model number should be on the dryer door frame. Gene.

I did the test with the heat on. It went five minutes, squealed and stopped. It restarted immediately.
The model # is LTG6234DQO

It looks to me like the problem is the motor bearings. You can find the complete disassembly instructions in the Service manual. Here are the break down diagrams and the parts list for the Whirlpool laundry system Model LTG6234DQ0Gene.

Will I spend more time/energy to learn how to break down the motor for the bearings than the money it costs to buy a new motor? (Thanks for the help, have I already said that? I cannot say it enough)

Yes, and it is not repairable. You have to replace the motor. The part number for the motor is AP3094242. Unfortunately nothing last forever. Gene.
