White-Westinghouse LA800M washer

After my washer finishes filling it starts making a loud humming sound and won't agitate, drain, or spin.
I've tried every cycle on the knob with the same results.
I can turn the agitator by hand.

I drained the water by hand, then switched it to SPIN. It actually started to drain and also started making a lot of noise. The lid was closed so I couldn't tell if the agitator was moving. I noticed a little smoke coming from the lid switch so I shut everything off quickly.

My first thought was that the motor was locked up, but if it drained does that mean the motor still works?

The problem is likely in the transmission, and given the age of the machine you are ready to replace it.
