The water line to the ice maker is clear, there is no ice buildup. This is a dual solenoid. If i connect the wire from the water despenser solenid to the ice maker solenoid, will that tell me if the solenoid is defective?

The connectors are usually two different sizes, but with an extra set of hands, you can move the connector over, then have someone press the water dispenser handle and see if water enters the ice maker. If it does, then you know the valve is working and the line is clear. Am I to assume you ice maker is not working?

TechnicianBrian You are assuming right that the ice maker is not working, but I was just checking to make sure if there was water, and there is not any. I know the ice maker is the one that demands the water and if it is not getting any, would that make the solenoid the culprit?

You are correct. If you apply voltage to the valve and it doesn't open, then the valve needs to be replaced. Sounds like you have everything under control.
