Washer makes loud continous thumping noise during spin cycle. It pumps all the water out but the spin in very slow. I installed a new drive block but it did not change anything. :confused: :confused: :confused:

Was the old drive block stripped out in the center? If so then you may also have to replace the spin tube too. If the ears on the spin tube are worn out they will just slip on the new drive block too.

The old drive block had a lot of build up, crud, that made removal of the tub difficult. I can't find a spinner tube on the parts list. Can you give me the link or does it also go by another name? Thanks for your help!!!!!!

I don't think the old drive block was stripped, it just had a lot of crud built up on it and I damaged it during removal so I replaced it. Thanks for the parts link for the "Basket Drive & Brake Assembly". Unfortunately there is no installation video and I have not been able to locate one. Can you help? Thanks Again!!!!!

You can get basic info in my sticky above "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes".
To replace the spin tube, youi will need to scrape/clean the spin tube just above the seal to allow it's removal.Also, lay the washer on it's back to prevent turbine oil leaking out. To properly tighten the drive block nut, you will need the special spanner wrench mentioned.

I pulled the agitator and started the spin cycle to verify that the ears on the spin tube and the newly installed drive block are hooked up, not slipping. They are not. The problem persists: in the spin cycle the washer makes a constant thumping sound, every half second or so, and the basket barely moves. I pulled the pump, motor, transmission, and spin tube which is clean. I feel I am missing something obvious but what? Thanks for your help!!!!

You probably have a stripped nylon gear in the tranny. Turn the tranny coupler till the clutch housing starts to turn, if you feal a rough spot, that confirms it.

Bingo! Turned the tranny coupler and the drum started to turn then stopped and I could feel a rough spot then after several turns the drum started to turn and then after a few more turns the drum stopped turning and the rough feel in the coupler returned. What now?

At $183 for a new tranny AP3096209, rather expensive. Might want to junk the item, but if in good shape, might want to get a new tranny.
