Sorry i didnt bring the model number, anyway I replaced the defrost timer, now once you turn on the fridge via temp controll switch, you hear the compressor kick in and it cools down to 32 degrees. 8-12 hrs later have to turn the fridge off and back on and it will be ok for another 8-12 hrs. I am thinking it is the diffuser, thermosdat, or relay on the compressor....Any ideas??? the freezer generally stays cold but i did notice in the past few days alot of frost on the shelves etc. HELP please!

Came home last night after turning the temp controll off them back on yesterday moring between 3-4 it was according to my thermometer, 23 degrees, this morning when I got up the few things we have in the fridge were frozen, the temp seem to swing either way too cold or in the 50-60 degree range, this is why i was thinking it may be the diffuser, but then i noticed the thermosdat, and reading some of the articles here it leads me to beleive a defrost sillinoid. I hope I am on the right track

The temp in the fresh food side seems to be affected more that the freezer side, the freezer side shows over defrost with ice cubes melting together, and snow on the items in the freezer. So it goes from a deep defrost to so cold you could do harm to skin if you put your hand in there.

No I have never noticed frost on the back of the freezer just the snow and the deep freeze on the ice cubes or at this point it becomes one big ice cube after the deep defrost then it goes to a deep freeze.

The original problem I noticed over a two week period that stuff just didn’t seem all that cold, then within 2 days food was warm in the fresh section Ice cream melted in the freezer. I took the panel off the back and the vent off the front, OMG it looked as if someone stuffed insulation down there from all the dust and hair dirt etc, so I thought I found the problem, got out the air compressor blew everything off cleaned the entire fridge made sure all was working put it back together fired it up. The whole unit got cold, I bought a thermometer from 12noon until 8pm it was fine, then it crashed started to get real warm again, I was reading some blogs and talked to a few people they said usually it’s the defrost timer that goes. So I ordered that, kept the fridge off for three days until I got the part, funny not much water if any in the pan under the fridge so couldn’t be that much buildup.

After replacing the timer it worked great for a few days and then the ball dropped again. And for the past two weeks if I don’t shut the fridge off and back on via the thermostat control it would just defrost dawn to about 60 degrees in the fresh food side and about 40 degrees in the freezer.

Part Number: AP4327308 made by WHIRLPOOL….I think this could be it just because it is not letting the proper air in to the fresh food compartmant

Part Number: AP3037004 made by WHIRLPOOL….Then I think well the diffuser would work right if the thermostat was reading the right temp


Relay, overload and cover kit

Well I havnt order any parts yet should I start with the thermostat then? Does that somehow controll the diffuser as well? I saw the one blog in the room regarding checking continuity with a multi tester, I was going to do that tomorrow on the relay and the bi metal defrost?
