I have a Gibson Dishwasher Model Number SP18D5KYGB that started making a loud grinding noise. The next load, the motor jammed and would not turn at all. I removed the riser that feeds water to the spray arms and the motor turned freely when I ran the dishwasher. Under the riser there is a plastic impeller on the very end of the motor shaft. This seems to be rubbing against the inside of the riser and causing the noise/jam. Also, when I turn the motor by hand it looks like this impeller isn't centered or is crooked.
All other functions seem to be working ok. The dishwasher fills, drains etc... Does anyone have any idea how to repair this? I looked at what I think is the replacement wash impeller (Wash impeller Part Number: AP2135649 made by FRIGIDAIRE), but it doesn't look like the original. This could be an improvement over the original. The original is a cream colored plastic impeller with about 25 vertical fins angled so that water is pumped up into the spray arms.
I suspect this impeller to be the problem but am not sure. Thanks, Chris

Can I get away with replacing only the impeller (AP2135649), or do I have to do the complete seal kit. If so, does this require any special tools? I saw on one site they sell a shaft seal installation tool for $26. Is this necessary?
Thanks
