I have an Estate Dryer that stopped heating and advancing through the cycle. I would like to attempt to locate the problem and repair myself. Any ideas on where to start? Any offerings would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I should also mention, that only the auto dry setting turns on. The timed dry setting does not work.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL TEDS780JQ0 ELECTRIC DRYER | AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet. I would check the power first. In auto the timer motor gets power through the heating element when the element is shut off. The 5,000 ohm resistor reduces the 240 volts to 120 volts for the timer motor. So in auto both the heater and the timer run off of 240 volts. If power is OK then I would check the heating coil. If it is blown you also have no timer advance. What is wrong with timed dry? It is usually the more reliable cycle as the timer gets power directly from the line. Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times, sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!! |

Unsure of the timed dry issue, it has not worked for a while. Went through the steps listed, it did not solove issue. Checked continuity on thermostats and heating elements. All seemed fine. Checked for any breaks in heating element, none were found. Unsure of where to go next. Changed out wires connected to part #3977393 as they were accidently melted. Dryer now heats extremely hot. Please advise. Thank you.

Dryer now heats extremely hot. I thought it had no heat. What exactly is it doing?
Sometimes high heat is caused by a grounded element. Check the heating coil. Unplug the unit and both wires to the coil. Check it with a meter, should be around 10 to 12 ohms. Then check from each side of the coil to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not the coil may have sagged or broken and is touching the case. This can cause it to run on high as the thermostats cannot regulate it. |
