Greatest forum ever!! I have a Whirlpool stackable small dryer-LDR3822PQ0-This thing heats once and awhile. I have cleaned it free of lint inside and out. I have checked the exaust, plenty of air. I have checked the thermostats with an olm-meter. The register off the chart with connectivity. I just learned of the possible thermal fuse issue. Then when I put it all back together it heats up maybe once. I did run the unit open, I did not see the coils heat up or turn orange. I am not sure if this is supposed to happen, but it is say like a space heater, then maybe the heating element is bad. Any other ideas, the control board? another linkage somewhere? I am baffled.

Check your heater resistance, should be 10 ohms approximately. Also when you checked the thermostats did you remove the wires from one side of any device you measured just to be sure that you were not measuring an alternate/parallel circuit path. |

thanks for your reply! I did take off the wires on each thermostat when using an olm-meter. They registered fine. When you say check your 'heater resistance' are you referring to checking the element itself? Or is this related to the thermal fuse or something else. That may be a stupid question but my electric skills never went past 10grade electric shop class! I fix computers for a living now, willing to dryer trade tips for computer tips. So basically I am kinda stuck. Should the coils turn bright orange or change to a heated color when the dryer is running? Is justs barely heats, its really low low heat, and sometimes none at all. Then out of nowhere it starts to heat. Just puzzled!

When you say check your 'heater resistance' are you referring to checking the element itself?
Yes yhe element
Take both wires of of it
Check between for the 10 ohms
Then check from each side to the case, should be an open.
Almost sounds like you have a grounded element re: element sags touches the case and screws thinks up because now you have 120 on the heater instead of 240. Also may have broken but one end is now touching the case giving you some heat even though the heater is shot. |

well now I am completely just stumped. I have checked the thermostats, no problems with connectivity from the ohm-meter. Cleaned the dryer completely free of every bit of lint inside and out! I went out and bought a new heater element for it, but I still have very little heat. I figured it was a grounded heating element as some real pros gave me advice on this forum. I am reaching out for I am just lost here! Could it be the control board? I literally think that is the only thing I have not tested or don't know how to test it. Just makes no sense. I realize its a small dryer an just may not heat-up as I want, but shouldn't the coils turn orange inside the element? I have a load of clothes in washer now, and will dry them soon. Any help is truly appreciated Whirlpool LDR3822PQ0.

The board operates the timer not the heat
Do not expect this unit to dry like a standard dryer.
The heating element is about 1300 watts while a standard dryer is up around 5000 watts.
Take a look at Item 4 in the "Bulkhead Parts" of the part breakdown given earlier. It shows that your cycling (Control) thermostat is adjustable from 135 to 155 degrees, you may want to turn it up.
Disconnect it from the exhaust
Start it up
Partially block the exhaust with your hand
If the coils go orange and cycle then it is probably working as it should.
Perhaps you have very good air flow so the coils seldom can go orange because they cannot build up enough heat. |
