I recently had a bottom leak and replaced the Mounting Stem seal along with the Tub Bearing. After assembling the bolts were very hard to line up in the orginal mounting brackets again. However the tub seal does have the same height dimensions as the old one. After getting everything together the washer won't spin and burns the belt. I tore everything apart and just had the outter tub but still it did the same thing. How hard should it be to turn the counter balance and transmission? Any suggestions?

If you beat the heck out of the mounting above the seal and bearing when you put it back together it could have damaged the new tub bearing.
It only needs one good tap to snug it up and then lock the set screw.

After tearing everything apart, I made sure that the transmission spun freely which it did. Here's what I think is wrong, the top end of new gasket is about 2mm higher than the old tub bearing top. I also noticed that there is a cut in in the transmission housing molding where the tub bearing bottom is. I also noticed that the bolt holes for the outer tube are about 0.1875 inches too high for mounting brackets when the outer tub is just resting on the transmission.
Question: When the outer tub is just reseting on the transmission should the holes between the outer tub and mounting brackets line up? Is there a adjustment on the mounting braces? It looks like when they assembled the things didn't line up and they shimmed the tub down by cutting into the transmission casing????

I shouldn't have to do this but is there anyway to adjust the height of the stem. It seems like it is too high and won't allow the outer tub bolt holes to line up and presses too hard down on the top of the balancer after all three bolts are in.

I didn't read the first instruction that i was following very well. It said to grab 4 beers in order to complete this repair. Being half way through the process I should have already been through two instead of one. That being said, make sure that you insert the tub bearing the correct way. After that every thing is easy as pie!
