Whirlpool model number of my fridge: ET1CHMXKB03
Part number of what I am replacing: AP3110896

I just ordered a replacement defrost timer from this site. And after giving out the model number to my fridge, I purchased the timer today. But on the timer that I am replacing is attached to the control box cover via plastic stubs with a metal clip that you can't get off without breaking the stubs. The new replacement comes with screws and bolts.

Am I supposed to drill two small whole where the plastic stubs are and then attach the new timer with the bolts? This is the only way I could see to do it.

If I had purchased the control box cover, you can see on the picture from the website that it has the two stubs protruding up, but I don't want to buy a new cover if I don't have too. (part no. to control box: AP2900119

Appreciate any ideas.
