If you suspect it is bad, you can try spraying a non-residue cleaning spray into the opening by the connector while turning the timer knob. This spray is available at Lowes.

If the motor has 120 volts across it and does not advance the timer is shot. If it is contacts you want to check you have to disconnect the timer, manually rotate it then use the timing chart and a meter to check if the correct contacts are closed.

So, not relying on someone else’s input I begin to check operation. I ended up testing everything and all checked OK to the best of my knowledge. The timer is the one part I wasn't sure about testing properly. It seems to turn a little stiff, but runs through full cycle with no problems. Any Ideas.....on Intermittent operation. (Unfortunately no one can tell me which part of the cycle it tends to stop) "RICHAPPY" are you referring to QD contact cleaner......... Thanks again guys.....

Sometimes low current contacts will get dirt on them. A combo of spray and turning the timer knob will clear them.
