Hi, Our 2005 spacemaker shuts down after a few seconds - unit requests to reset clock - reset doesn't resolve non-working situation. Everything else seems to work appropriately. This appears to be a common problem w/these GE's as per google search. I've located the troubleshooting chart and appears it is the HV Capacitor - does this seem correct? Would I also replace the HV Diode as well? Are these units notorious for repair issues? If so, should I consider replacing the entire unit - recommendation? Thanks

Most likely the problem with your microwave is a bad magnetron. You were right - this is one of the most common problem with GE microwaves for a few last years. Check with GE - the part could be under the limited warranty which does not cover the labor charge. - The part number for the magnetron is AP2025937Gene.

Thanks Gene,
Even though the flow chart indicates a HVC problem?
Is there a later model that doesn't seem to have these repair issues?

Did you check the capacitor with a meter? In addition, if the high voltage capacitor is shorted out then it will cause the in-line fuse to blow out.
I hope GE did fix it.
Gene.
