I've tried to search for this problem but haven't found anything exactly the same. I have a side by side GE fridge with an in-door ice/water dispenser. Everything works....most of the time. But once in a while, when you press the lever for ice, nothing happens. Well, you can hear the ice coming down, but it does not make it all the way through. Then, when you open the freezer, you are attacked by ice falling out. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Looks like the ice door (#62 on the break down diagram) is not opening properly. Most likely the problem is a broken or dislodged crank door recess (#67 on the break down diagram). Also I would recommend to check the ice door itself and the solenoid (#36 on the break down diagram) with it's wire harness connections. In order to access these parts you have to remove the dispenser front panel first. The complete instructions are attached to this post. - The part number for the crank door recess is AP3185409 - The part number for the ice door is AP3672582 - The part number for the solenoid assembly is AP3963333Gene.
