Thanks again Tom.

Maytag LAT2300AA turns out to be a different story. Now that it's all over but the crying, the outer tub doesn't have to be removed.

The outer tub is constructed with a center tube that rises up. The agitator drive comes up through this. The tub seal sits on the outside of this tube, like a ring. It doesn't extend to the outside of the tub.

Removing the outer tube was awful and unnecessary. The tub is held in place with struts and springs to stabilize it. The springs were hard to remove and hard to put back on.

Should have been a reasonable job, maybe a couple of hours, if I knew this model was different from the other Maytags.

Right now I'm too tired to see if the leak is fixed.

Thanks again for the help and support.

If LAT2300AA is the correct model number of your washer then that's what written in the Service manual for this model: "Use spanner wrench to remove clamping nut. This is a left-hand thread so it must be turned Clock-Wise. A mallet will be required to loosen the nut."

Gene.

Mallet, schmallet. I use a 3 lb drilling hammer.
