Was helping clean the range today and had trouble removing one of the 15/16th nuts that holds the holder in place. Once it came off, I noticed that the threads on both the nut and the holder were damaged. I got it back together enough to use the burner, but would like to repair it. Is this an easy job done from the top without having to lift the unit up? I see one Phillips screw holding it in place, but I'm not sure there is enough room to wiggle the part out in order to replace it. Also not sure how much dis assembly of the gas feed lines are necessary.

Thanks.

Len

Hi Len,

You can find the complete instructions in the Service manual.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Jenn Air cooktop Model CCG2423W

Thanks Gene - having the pdf of the manual should come in handy now and in the future.

Okay Gene (and anyone else who can help) - I got the new holder installed along with the new nut. The new holder came with a natural gas orifice, so I reused my old propane orifice. While I had everything apart, I also removed the other three orifices to make sure they were clear. What an easy job I thought. Then after I put everything back together and fired it up, I got big yellow flames that left soot all over the pot I was using. The yellow flames are generally bad only on the high setting. On medium and low, the flame is pretty good. These yellow flames were occurring on all four burners, not just the one I worked on. I believe that means that it's not getting enough air, so I took everything apart to look for an obvious problem. It has to be something I did along the way, since I didn't have this problem before. The only strange thing I found was that the new holder seems like it may not be sealing with the gas feed line. The new holder can be turned very easily against the gas feed line while all the other holders are very tight and hardly movable. The new one just kind of flops around on the gas line. It almost seems like the gas line doesn't go far enough into the new holder to seal the flared end.

So several questions come to mind. Are all of the holders identical except for the orifice they have in them? My guess is that they are all the same. When I compared the new holder to the old one, it sure looked to be the same to me. I know I didn't mix up the orifices when I removed them, because I did them one at a time. But is there some special procedure for torquing or sealing the orifices? Is it possible that the flare end of the gas feed line can go bad? Right now that's my guess, but I don't want to throw parts at it until I am reasonably certain that's what the problem is.

Thanks for your help.

Len

Hi Len,

It can cause only gas leak at the joint but not the flame problem you described. Especially for all burners. I would check the whole gas line from the pressure regulator, paying attention to the conversion instructions from the manufacturer installation instructions (pages 7 & 8). Try to adjust the gas burner valves as described there. There are no any other air mixture adjustments available for this model.

Thanks for the instructions Gene. I went through everything again today and could find no problems other than that loose holder at the gas line connection. So I'm going to order a new gas line and see if that fixes things. I currently only have the two burners on the right side hooked up and they seem to be working okay. Thinking back, my yellow flame problem may have only been occurring when I had my bad left front burner on along with some other burner(s). Would yellow flames be a possibility if I had a bad left front burner and it was on along with some others?

Len,

Every burner has it's own gas supply line through the gas burner valve and I do not see how one can affect another one.

Thanks again for your help Gene. Got it fixed last night - thought I'd post the fix in case it might help someone else. Apparently there is a small ferrule on the gas lines that is a one time use deal or at least worked out that way in my case. Once the gas line was unscrewed from the holder, the ferrule would no longer seal the line, therefore causing my problem. I replaced the gas line and all was well. I compared the new gas line to the old and there definitely was a difference in the appearance of the ferrule on the new vs. the old.
