Kenmore Elite Dryer will not stay on after pressing start switch

My Kenmore Elite Dryer will not stay on after pressing the start switch. It will run as long as the switch is held in and does heat, however does not stay running after releasing the start switch. Ran diagnostic test (seems like diagnostic mode times out after approx 4 min), timer did run, but tested timer motor impedance and continuity anyway. Checked Door switch, High Limit Thermostat, Thermal Cut-off, Thermistor, and Thermal Fuse, all which tested ok. Since all these tested ok, ordered replacement Even Heat Electronic Control Assembly (original p/n 3978949, replacement p/n W10116565) however the dryer still will not run. Any help will be appreciated.

See the attachment for the tech sheet You can see from the wiring diagram that a relay is wired in parallel with the start switch. This relay closes so that you can release the start switch and the unit continues to run. Since you have replaced the control board I will assume that the relay is getting the correct voltage but for some reason is not closing it's contacts. I believe that the heater and the motor relays are the same. Please double check that they are the same. Unplug the unit and replace the motor relay with the heater relay. Then plug it in and give it a try. If it now runs when you release the start switch you need a new relay. |

ok, will try this afternoon. If swapping relays does not work, do you know what voltage should be from p3-2 and p2-7 on the control board motor relay coil connections).

Thank you Denman! That was exactly the problem, the motor relay went bad.
