Hello all.

I have a GE dishwasher that is new to me, just moved in last week.

When turning unit on, it will make a LOUD grinding noise and NO water is coming into the unit. I have double checked the water supply is on, there are NO leaks under the unit at all. The unit actually starts, and by manually moving the dial it will cycle through the different stages.

From what I have been reading on this site so far, it could be a number of things. Not sure if I have the right diagrams.. I hate to be a newbie and ask the same questions .... but HELP!

Here is everything off the tag:

GE MODEL VDB6110LD129

120 volts amp 9.0

142 60 LR 5222 Type DWP 1

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi Jason,

The model number you posted does not come up. Is it American model?

As Gene said a valid US Model Number will help

If the unit is the most common GE pump then often they are noisy if run with low water levels.
Make sure the unit has some water in the sump or you will overheat and burn out the pump seals.

Remove the spray arm and check the pump for glass etc.
Remove the sump cover and check it for debris
Both the above will not cause no water input but could cause excessive pump noise

If you have a meter check across the water solenoid for voltage.
If it is getting voltage then the valve is either shot or the valve's screen filter is clogged up.

Another thing to check is the overfill switch/float. Usually left hand side front of the unit.
Machine may think it is already full of water.

The below may help you troubleshoot it.

Thanks for both your help. Actually I am located in Canada, maybe that's why the model number is invalid. I will perform all checks and report back on findings.

Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks again everyone for you help! I this website is amazing resource of information. I was able to fix my dishwasher, it was the floater valve that was causing the problem...among other things like gummed up pieces..so a little cleaning. And works like new!

Cheers
