Hi rondawn Most likely the problem with your fridge is a bad dumper control (#420 & #426 on the fresh food compartment break down diagram). It has to replaced and it comes with the installation instructions. - The part number for the new dumper control assembly AP3775595 - Here are the break down diagrams for the GE refrigerator Model PSS25MGMAWWGood luck. Gene.

if the damper control assembly is not exactly as the one being replaced, should i modify it to be exactly like the old one ? or just take the new design as is??? The piece sent can easily be made into the old one --meaning that it is missing a duct that would push cold air to the ceiling of the refrigerator - do not know if new design or it is meant for different frigerator models thanks i have the pss25mgmaww bought in 2000 and 2001

Gene. to tell you the truth..i bought it on another site. but the pics on the other site match your site and your site was out of stock. it is basically the same thing..except there is extra styraphone and a piece of plastic that is perferated where you should break it off to match the original. you can easily make it into the original piece. put repair clin i c the part is : http://www.************.com/SSP...55112&PartID=1055112

Before modifying it, I would verify the old damper is really bad. Is it stuck open, or if you unplug it, move the door, then plug it back in, does it move all the way to the open position?? If so, you have other problems.

If so, you have other problems. okay- I opened the stryrophone peice on the original piece and found the door hinge broken. Now on the new damper - it is missing 2 outlets where to funnels the air through to the rest of the refrigerator: 1) is the main funnel - the new damper even has the plastic cut out in the same place as the old - but the styrophone replacement is not there. The air that blows - blows into the area where the bulbs are. 2) On the cieling of the frigerator - there are 2 styrophone plates stuck to the ceiling. The new damper feeds cold air to only the left one - the right side has a plastic perferated peice that is blocking from feeding the right side. I do not know if i should break it off or not - so cold air can feed the right side of the ceiling. It seems only that the styrophone is not correct or not the same as the original peice - i do not know if it is a design change or if it is meant for another frig or if it is meant for more then 1 frig. Is there a number i can call GE and find out about this part more in depth ???

When I asked you about the part number I did not mean where you bought it - it's not of my business. I just wanted to confirm if this is the right part.
Gene.
