Icemaker simply stopped working one day. Checked all the logical problems; blockage, filter, etc. Called a technician. He came and wound up checking some places with his meter. Outlet to Fridge, 120v. Refrig itself, 120v. Power at Infrared signal receiving AND sending, only 100v. He states that this is not enough power to make the icemaker work.
Two questions:
What can make this happen all of a sudden? (Broken or loose wire?)
How in the world would that be repaired since the wiring is inside the walls of the refrig?

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I got a repair bill yet nothing is repaired.

take the cover off the ice maker. then unplug the fridge. then put a jumper wire on the icemaker where these two holes on the module are about a 1/2" apart. since you unplug your fridge you want to wait 5 minutes before you plug in back in. plug fridge back in. then hold sensor door and freezer door in for 1 minute. icemaker should go into harvest mode. after 10 sec. pull jumper wire off. Now if icemaker does not go into harvest your sensor eye is bad. if it does go into harvest your ice maker is bad. you could have a bad module or bimetal.

OKbobcat,
Ok, that sounds fine if I want to check whether the sensor or the unit itself is working, but the problem seems to be that of low voltage at the sensor and icemaker. It is only 100v and the unit is designed for 120v. 100v isn't enough power to make the process work, right?

okbobcat,
I called the repairman back. It seems that he missed something on his recheck and the door sending sensor is bad.
Thanks for your help.
Phil
