Dishwasher has started to leak (drip) underneath when water is in the tub. I have pinpointed it to the actual tub as best that I can tell. If I hand fill the bottom of the dishwasher until the sump seal and heat element washers are covered, the leak starts. I thought the leak might be running along the bottom of the tub but I it looks to me like it is coming through the tub. Does that make sense? Could it have developed a hole? The unit is probably 5-6 years old. Could it be the sump seal? I've posted a couple pictures that might help. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions. I would get a mirror and a flashlight and try to confirm the leak location.
Also check the tub from the inside
If it is a tub leak, it should be covered under warranty |

I have confirmed that there is a hairline crack underneath. Can I repair it with some JB Weld? Should water be coming out of there whether there is a crack or not? There is no hole on the inside. My thought is whether the crack is new and now water is dripping out or whether the crack has always been there and now water is somehow getting inside the tub walls. Is that a possibility? Could water be getting in around the sump seal or somewhere else?

It looked to me that the leak is coming from the tub itself.
If that is so it should be a warranty claim. |

OK. It's 7 years old. Original warranty was 1 year. Does the tub carry a longer warranty? I am on the phone with Sears now and getting nowhere. I appreciate your time on this.

Note this site is a pain seems to be down more than up but it is the official source for Kenmore info. Here is the relevant section from the Owners Manual (L0504022) FULL WARRANTY FOR THE LIFE OF THE DISHWASHER, ON ULTRA LIFE TMTUB MODELS, AGAINST LEAKS IN THE TUB AND INNER DOOR PANEL For the life of the dishwasher, if a leak should occur as a result of failure of the polypropylene tub or inner door panel due to cracking, chipping or peeling, Sears will replace free of charge the tub or inner door panel. Could not get it to attach to this email could be it is too big |

On a final note (I hope). A technician came out today and confirmed that the tub does have a hole in it and a new one has been ordered....all under warranty. Thanks again!

That is good news!!!
If the hole is a hole and not a crack, the old one may be repairable.
If they leave the old one with you and you have some use for it you may want to give it a shot.
You need a stainless steel screw or bolt with a decent sized head.
Must be stainless a standard screw will rust out in no time.
Pre-drill where the hole is.
You do not want the plastic bulging up on the inside. Sand it if you have to after you have run the screw in once..
Goop it up with caulking. You are basically making a gasket and holding it in place with the screw.I would use high temp engine sealant or the stuff they fix dishwasher racks with.
Then install the screw.
Then goop up the underside of the screw, so it cannot back out. Just a precaution.
Wipe off the extra sealant, let it cure for at least 24 hours and away you go.
Could also use a bolt but it may have to be long enough to reach down past the honey comb on the bottom of the tub. You will then have to make up a plate with a hole in it to reach across some of the honey comb so you can tighten the bolt.
I have fixed more than one gas tank using the above method.

I have the exact same problem - a hairline crack and an obvious hole in the exterior bottom of the tub. I called Sears Service and also talked to the Warranty dept. and they told me it would still cost $129 for the service call for someone to install the new tub. Did they charge you for that, or was it completely free? This seems like a total scam by Kenmore - how is $129 equivalent to "Sears will replace free of charge" as stated in the warranty?
