We are having the same problem & see that it can be fixed for free. Will this affect the temperature in the refrigerator? The compressor was coming on, but now it seems that the temperature is not cool enough. Also, will any other damage be done - we are trying to figure out if we need to unplug it until it is fixed?

Could you give me the phone number where you called? I'm having this same problem with my Maytag refrigerator. I called Whirlpool/Maytag in Michigan and they said there is no recall or "quality issue" with this refrigerator, and there would be a $89 service charge just to send someone to look at it, plus parts and labor.
