That black cover on the box attached to the compressor doesn't want to come off - I'm assuming that is covering the relay that Denman is suggesting I check?? Tips on getting it loose?

The black cover is usually hold by a metal clamp around the center, you have to get down to be able to see it. once you get that cover out
you will see the relay, just pull it right out, you may use a flat screw driver be very gentle. look at the connections make sure they are not
burn and look at the 3 proms at the compressor that they don't have
any plastic melt on them.connections look clean replace with a new one. base on what you describe this is the most likely the cause for your compressor not to be running.

Hi Dhilb,
My 6yrs old GE Monogram has exactly problem like yours - everything like 2 fans, light, water are working perfectly fine but the compressor is completely silent!!

I have replaced some parts as suggestion from repair appliances forum participants:
- 3 thermistor (1 in freezer and 2 in fresh food compartment)
- the main board

Hope to have the fridge working again but it is not the compressor still completely silent.

Fiancial distress, need help to fix this myself. Please help my family food are stored in the cold shed for this winter tine in the north east.

I am welcome any hints, tips and suggestion to revive my fridge. Thanks you all so very much
