Yes you can use an ohmmeter to check a defrost heater altho your model seems to have the defrost end t-stat as part of the defrost heater assy... See P/N AP3465260... I once came across a defrost end t-stat that was of the resistive variety, the wire diagram even listed a resistance value... It was on a magic chef refrigerator if I remember correctly... My ohmmeter showed continuity across the t-stat leads but this control would not allow voltage thru to complete the circuit to power the defrost heater... Something to keep in mind if you ever have defrost circuit continuity on an ohmmeter but the evaporator still ices up... cheers, kooler

Hi Byron

The manufacturer did not provide the defrost heater resistance in the technical documentation. If the defrost heater shows some resistance it should be good.

The most common issue for failure in a defrost system with the Maytag refrigerators is a faulty adaptive defrost control (#13 on the controls break down diagram) which has to be replaced to solve the problem.

- The part number for the adaptive defrost control AP3160614

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag refrigerator Model MZD2766GEW

Good luck.
Gene.
