My twenty year old Sumsang microwave began sparking whenever I heated up a small plate of pecans. Then there was no problem until I went to pop kernels of corn. Now sparking occurs when I heat a cup of water for tea. The sparks seem to come from the top and sides, but they seem to bounce off of the sides and the doors and make a popping, thumping like sound.

Sounds like there is time for a new microwave.

Gene.
