I have an Amana side-by-side refrigerator (Model SQD26VL) that is not freezing or cooling. I had the same problem a couple years ago. The Sears repair technician changed the thermostat (inside freezer) and things worked better. I began having the problem again recently so I replaced the thermostat but no luck this time. The compressor and compressor fan are running and the freezer coils frost up (at least the first couple of the top coils) and the refrigerator stays just cool enough to keep food from spoiling. I can't use the freezer at all.

The fan above the freezer coils doesn't run. I'm not sure I have the thermostat hooked up correctly.

Which of the following is the proper thermostat hookup - the brown wire coming out of the back of the unit should be plugged into which of the 2 brown & brown connectors? If #1 connector is the connector that has 1 brown wire going directly to the test plug and the other brown wire going to #2 brown/brown connector. The #2 connector is the one with 1 brown wire going to #1 connector and the 2nd brown wire going directly to thermostat.

The black wire that connects to the orange & orange connector of the thermostat assembly – does this send current to the defrost heater?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is your parts breakdown
Model SQD26VL

Here is a service manual and a tech sheet

You should be able to check the wiring using the tech sheet

If it was not for the fan not running I would lean towards low freon.
So if you get the fan running and still have insufficient cooling, take a look at the below. The example pictures at the bottom of the page

Thank you. I review and see if I can determine if the fan is bad.
