My Amana Dryer runs for a while and then stops and has difficulty starting again. I let it sit overnight and it started right up and has been running fine. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Here are your parts Replacement parts for AMANA LEA30AW DRYER- ELE | AppliancePartsPros.comSounds like the motor is overheating. It then trips it's internal protect and you have to wait for the motor to cool down (the thermal protect resets) before you can restart it. There can be a number of causes for this. Too much drag on the motor. Try turning the drum by hand it should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other dryers to get a feel for it. A partially plugged vent system so that hot air is blown onto the motor instead of out the vent. Try a cycle with no heat. If it still shuts down then this is not your problem. There is a centrifugal switch on the motor that switches out (opens) the start winding. If this does not work then the start winding stays in circuit and overheats the motor. Check/clean the motor, sometimes it is just lint build up that is preventing it from opening. Unfortunately often this is that the motor itself is on it's last legs. |
