On my 4 cubic foot frig, when I plug it in, the compressor will hum for around 10-15 seconds, then I hear a click and it stops, and won't restart unless I unplug it and let it sit for a while -is this an indication of a bad overload switch, bad PTC relay (which does what?) or a bad compressor?

Just remove back panel, pull the cover off the side of the compressor and pry the PTR relay off. Just order one on this site. If you have a meter, you might want to check for compressor short to ground.
