Here is your parts breakdown, has a wiring diagram Model PDBTT49AWWI would try removing power from the unit for a couple minutes, just to see if the board is doing something strange and will reset. If this does not fix it then: The picture of the control board shows 2 relays, odds are high that one of these is for the heater element and the contacts have welded together. You will need a new board. Could just replace the relay but finding one may be a problem, manufacturers do not make board components available. |

the unit is hard-wired...I shut off the breaker for 10 minutes but is still heats up as soon as it gets power and the door is closed...
my wife found the paperwork...it's about 3 1/2 years old and it sounds like the control board (part only) might be covered during years 3-5 of the warranty...I tried to call Maytag(/Whirlpool) to find out and after talking to their computer for 5 minutes giving all kinds of information it told me that they were closed today...don't know why they can't tell you they're closed immediately...
I'll try again on Monday...

here's an update on my situation...
even though cutting power to the unit didn't reset what was wrong at the control level, running the dishwasher through an entire wash cycle apparently did...after using it normally another time the heating coil shut off as it should...we will monitor it more carefully at the end of use but, for now, it looks like the problem went away...
thanks again for your help...
