My Maytag washer fills with water but doesn't start the aggitate cycle. A month ago I opened the controll panel and checked all of the connections and it fired right up. Two weeks ago it wouldn't go again so I checked the connections and it fired up again. Last week it acted up again only this time it didn't start. I thought since it filled with water the signal wasn't getting sent to the motor to start so I replaced the main controll/timer. It still fills with water but won't start the wash cycle. The fuse for the lid safety switch is still intact and I can here the switch activating when I open and close the lid. I suspect the problem is up on top and not down by the motor since it worked when I played with the wires. What do you think?

I think you are correct, that it is probably the control unit.
