My problem isn't quite like that in any post I've seen, so I hope you might be able to help me figure this out.
The standard part of the issue is that the water won't drain at the end of the cycle. I've checked the drain hose thoroughly. It's fine. There's no air gap. The disposal inlet is clean. Took the hose off at the back of the machine and made sure there was no blockage at the entrance to the hose. Took the "grill" off at the back of the tub and made sure there was nothing obvious there.
Here's the unusual aspect. If I detach the hose from the disposal and more or less have it within a few inches of level with where the drain hose attaches to the machine, it pumps just fine. This is not just gravity draining it. It comes out with reasonable force, and only when the machine is supposed to be pumping as it moves through the reset cycle. When the cycle stops, the water stops coming out. If I start it again (without allowing the water to fill back in), the flow will resume and drain the remainder of the standing water.
But, when it's pumping, as soon as I lift the open end of the hose I'm pointing into a bucket to a foot above the level of where it is attached, the water stops flowing. It's like it doesn't have enough power to pump the water too far uphill.
I have an air gap sitting on the sink. A repairman disconnected it a number of years ago and there was no problem with the change.
So, in a sense, all the components of the pumping system are working - the outlet end of the hose and the hose itself just need to be within a few inches of the level of the pump outlet from the machine.
I'm thinking of attaching the drain hose directly to the waste line at the right level. I could easily do it in a place where I wouldn't get a backfill unless my whole kitchen sink waste line backed up.
But, I'd rather solve the root problem if possible. So, I would look forward to any thoughts anyone might have. I know that the pump compeller (?) is possibly an issue, as is the part (forgot its name) that sits under the grill in the back of the tub. But, with the general system working, and not being familiar with these, I thought someone might have an idea whether I should bother to check them out or not.
Thanks!
Best,
outofmyleague
