Hello,

I just bought a used Whirlpool Washer. It's the manual control knob type where you press the control knob in and spin it around to your setting and you hear the clicking sound to let you know you are turning the knob. When you get to the setting you want, you pull it out, and it starts. The problems is, I'm having to push in harder and harder to get the clicking sound and to get the "Setting Arrow" on the collar underneath the knob, to move. It's to the point the "Setting Arrow" on the collar will hardly move at all.

My question is will replacing the TIMER KNOB fix the problem ?

Thanks in Advance,

Chris

It is possible the timer is no longer tightly screwed to the console and so when you push in you cannot get it all the way in.

Take off the knob and check this out, and also try pushing in the shaft with the knob off. If it will not go all the way in changing out the timer is probably required. Changing knobs will probably not fix it unless there is something busted on your knob.

Thanks sidfink43,

I was able to get the knob off and underneath was a plastic collar screwed on to the timer shaft. It looks like it was originally a part of the knob. The timer seems to work fine and "clicks" when I rotate the shaft. I am going to pick up a new knob and install it tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Chris

Yes, that plastic collar is part of the knob, so hopefully a new knob will fixs you right up.

Good luck.
