I'm having a similar problem. The dispenser lights used to dim when we tried to dispense water or ice but now they don't come on at all. When we try to dispense water we can hear the compressor turn off and there is a loss of power to the interior temperture display in the fridge. we replaced the Interface Display assembly but it didnt make a difference. We also checked behind the grill for any loose wires but don't see anything wrong there either.

If anyone has any suggestions we would appreciate it.

We did this and when i pressed the ice dispenser the compressor and fan clicked off. Now it's not kicking back on.

Very likely the problem is a bad main control board. What is the complete model number of your refrigerator?

Our model number is PSS26SHRE SS
We placed an order already for the main control board WR55X10942. Just waiting for it to arrive so we can replace it.

somehow i came across a connector under the fridge when i started to trace the tubing. it is right in front just behind the grill. There is a blue, red and white wire and after doing some pull test, the white wire just came apart. Looked like it was burned. Now i know why the light would come on and die once you press the dispenser. this wire probably passes a lot of voltage. should be a GE quality issue.
Reconnected it properly and BINGO - dispenser now works beautifully.

Had the exact same issue here but my wires looked corroded. So I clipped the wires from the connector and rewired them together using wire screws. bad connector that corrodes is the problem.
