Hello!

my extremely reliable Whirlpool LSR8244EQ1 top load washer has recently started making loud whining noises during spin cycle only. Occasionally, this whining noise is accompanied by a loud banging noise every so often, that appears to be the brake or clutch engaging the agitator while the tub is spinning, as the agitator quickly stops with the bang, and then starts back up to speed. I have a cell phone video of the whining noise and banging, and you can see the agitator stop spinning. I can try and post the video to youtube

any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

DD

thank you for the tip...I'll be sure and look at the brake shoe replacement thread.

here is the video I shot of the problem, any additional insight into what to replace to solve this issue is greatly appreciated:

Whirlpool top load washer whining and banging noises on spin cycle - YouTube

the video qualtiy is not great, but if you look closely, you can see the agitator sto spinning and the whining noise stop for a split second, that is when the banging noise occurs...for some reason, the banging noise is not audible on the video

thanks again,

DD

If there is nothing wrong with the brake then the problem is a bad transmission.
