My Whirlpool refridgerator quit cooling. Everything seems to work, Lights, fans, temp control, etc.. I cleaned coils underneath the unit and took cover out of freezer side to see if it was iced up. No frost, ice or excess water in drain pan. While I was doing this I heard a clicking sound coming from the back and found it was coming from the compressor starter relay. I bought a new starter, used my old capacitor, and got the same results when it was installed. The compressor gets warm to the touch but I don't know if it is running or not. When relay clicks feels like it tries to start then clicks off. I don't know what else to try. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
My warning light for water filter shows it needs replaced but I don't think that has anything to do with my problem.

If you wired it properly, you probably have a bad compressor, shorted start winding, amprobe would confirm.

I finally got an ohm meter and checked windings. Does not show any shorts. I have continuity on all 3 post on compressor. I also checked all 3 to ground and none show shorted.

The readings only indicate you have no shorts and the windings have continuity. From the sounds of it, you have a burnt start winding drawing high current, amprobe would confirm.

You need an amprobe to check current.
