Kenmore Heavy Duty 90 series - electric dryer runs when hit start button, but then shuts off after a few seconds / minutes. Just before shutting off there is a burning smell. It blows air well, no lint backup, and heats well. Sometimes it will not start again so I manuallly turn the drum a couple times and then it starts, runs briefly and shuts off again. How can I fix this? (have kids and the laundry is already stacking up) Please help.

Are you sure? . . . is there anything I can do/look at on the dryer to confirm this? I heard that if you have to replace the motor you may as well buy a new dryer.
thanks

a motor is only 100 bucks all the symptoms you described relates to a bad motor, I'm not one for giving bad advice. Have you ever tore the dryer down to clean the lint from the inside of it?Thats usually how a motor goes bad from the lint that collects on it and causes it to run hot eventually taking the bearings and windings out It will also sound bad when it is running and when you have to spin a drum to make it run indicates the start windings are bad.

It may be well worth the cost if you are able to do your own work. You'll have to weigh the cost if you pay a professional to do the replacement. If you were one of my friends, I would probably charge you a BBQ cook-out plus the cost of the motor; plus you would have to hold the light.
