dishwasher not draining water during wash cycle. is it supposed to.water is drained after machine finishes dishes

It suppose to drain at the end of each wash and/or rinse cycle. If it does not then you should see a lot of dirty water (much more than it suppose to be) if you open the door a few minutes before the last drain.
