This washer stops at the last spin cycle with app 6 minutes left and gives a UL error. It only does this at the last spin cycle and not at any other. It does it even with an empty load, water only. Any help and directions will be appreciated.

I am thinking of the main control unit as the problem, but only because I cannot think of any other problem.

Try replacing it, if you buy from this site and the part does not fix the problem you can return it. See the returns policy for details and conditions.
