I was given a dysfunctional microwave! When I tried to heat something in it I noticed arcing in the magnetron area. Upon examination of the magnetron, I noticed that only the small cap on the end was charred. Can this little piece be replaced :D, do I replace the whole magnetron :eek:, or, do I chunk the nuke:cool:?

You will need to replace the entire magnetron, if you are going t repair it, part number 6324W1A001E. Which can only be purchased from sears (about $80) or LG directly.

:eek:Thanks for the quick reply. I will replace it. Any insight as to why the thing had the meltdown? It is only the antenna that is fubar.

If the antenna tip is worn away from arcing, look inside the cavity where it goes in. If there is bare metal from arcing, I don't think it is repairable, it will just ark again. Best save your money for a new one!

I bought a Sear µwave about 3 years ago. I year ago, the magnetron went out and Sears replaced it under warranty.
A month ago, I heard a lot of arcing from the magnetron chamber, so I shut it off. As posted above, the metal cap on the end of the magnetron was discolored. So, I took it to the Sears Store again. They wanted $175 to fix it, so I bought the magnetron (Toshiba 2M282J(LG) - $92) from them and installed it today.
After 3 seconds of operation, I heard the same arcing sound. I shut it off quickly and removed everything. A small discoloration shows on the cap. I can't see anything in the cavity that indicates an arc to the wall.
Could this be a bad magnetron?

As i said, your cavity is damaged and not repairable!

Please advise if I can purchase one from you
1- LG Magnetron 2M246 050GF it is in a GE Microwave and it is shooting
Fire out into the Heating Area

You can repair the cavity with white enamel or epoxy paint that can withstand high heat, throughly cover the spots with paint after removing carbon burn residue with emory cloth or sand pad, also replace the waveguide cover if it has signs of cabonized burn marks from the charred magnatron antenna. any exposed metal in the cavity or body of the microwave oven will cause arcing and eventually magnetron failure.

If you do all this repair work, and replace the magnetron, and it fails again, you will have spent more than the item is worth. Worth a try if you have a used magnetron that will bolt in and seal properly.
