I definitely need a wire harness; the gray wire is completely severed, and all of the other colored wires (happily, not black and white!) are nicked and showing bare copper where the wires exit the door to go to the motor.

Do I need AP4114787 or AP4113226? The dishwasher's serial number is 24181905ZB.

I'd also appreciate any suggestions as to how I can protect the new wires from the same kind of damage.

Thanks in advance!

Syrynx,

The wire harness needed for your dishwasher is,

Part number: AP4113226
Part number: AP4113226

Based on the series / serial number, you supplied.
Most repair personnell leave as much "slack" in the wire harness on the door side of the retainer, attached to the tub support frame.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)

We received the wiring harness just about exactly 48 hours after ordering, despite choosing the lowest cost shipping. Naturally, this made us very happy! :)

But now I'm stuck: I can't figure out how to disconnect the wire terminals from the door switch. I'm afraid to try brute force, because I'm sure there has to be a locking mechanism of some sort built into the female terminal. But my eyes aren't good enough to see what it might be or how it works.

I'd be deeply grateful for any guidance!

Never mind about the wire terminals; I was able to pry them off with leverage from a small screwdriver.

Five and a half hours (and much soreness-- I'm old and arthritic) later, the old harness was out and the new one connected. We started a Light Wash cycle, and it's in the Heated Dry phase now, so we apparently didn't make any mistakes.

We're still concerned about preventing a recurrence of the chafing which sawed through the gray wire (and nearly through several others). We discovered that the clip/guide near the bottom of the door was not completely in place; that issue has been addressed. We may attempt to put some sort of chafing barrier in place when we open it up again to replace the cable ties we had to cut in order to remove the old harness (we didn't have any new cable ties on hand).

Joe, thanks again for your help! :)

Syrynx,

Great !!!

Glad you're up and running, the door switch wiring usually is a "pain" and most people"pry" them off, as you did, so everthing went as expected.

As for the "chafing", not a lot can be done, it's just "one of those things".
All you can do, is attempt to keep the harness as loose as possible, at the bottom of the door, and properly secure everything.

Good Luck,
Thanks,

:) :) :)

Joe, thanks very much for the feedback. :) The dishwasher has washed half a dozen loads or so without any problems, so we think it's good to go for a while.

Looking back, I'm pretty sure that the chafing was the result of my failure to put everything back in place after a previous repair two years ago. This time, my partner's eagle eyes and talented fingers made sure that everything was properly tucked in before we buttoned it back up. She's good that way. :D

We're both profoundly relieved, and not just because we saved the price of a new dishwasher. We looked extensively at new ones, and both of us feel that none of the models currently available would be as satisfactory to us as the MDB6650AWQ has been.

Thanks again for the assistance and reassurance! :)

Syrynx,

You're going to be fine, and for quite a while, I'm sure.

Give your helper a "pat on the back" for us, she deserves one too.

Great Job to both of you.

Thanks,
:) :) :)
