Last month my dishwasher gave me the blinking CLEAN light for no apparent reason. I managed to reset it by starting the Service Diagnostics Cycle. It started working again but then kept getting louder. I found the service instructions behind the kick plate and ran the complete diagnostics cycle. It went through all 19 cycles and every cycle where the Wash Motor engages is when it made the loud noise.

Do I just swap out the Wash Motor or is there a subassembly I should check first?

Remove the pump cover and the inlet protector (#8 on the break down diagram) and check for any foreign objects. Remove the chopper (#6 on the break down diagram) and check the shaft.

I got to the chopper. No major debris. Seemed to be in good shape. Is the chopper driven by the same motor?

I've looked at the motor and it seems that it should twist out of it's mounts but I can't get it to budge.

Yes, the chopper is driven by the same motor.

You can find the instructions in the tech sheets, you found behind the kick panel.

The Tech Sheet I pulled from the kick panel doesn't go into how to remove the motor, it only has diagnostic tests.

That document helps. Do I have to remove the entire housing and lift it from inside the dishwasher? I already have the machine out of the cabinet and on its side. Step 3 of Disassemble Motor Subassembly says to rotate the motor counterclockwise. This is what I tried already but it is very tight and I'm afraid I'll break something if I'm turning the wrong thing. I've got a strap wrench to use. Should I just tourque it harder?

I'm afraid you skipped a few steps in the removal instructions. Read it more careful, please.
