I ordered a Evaporator Fan motor replacement and received a substitute part # 297250000 by Electroux. My original evaporator fan motor is # 216822500, A O Smith, MDL # 3762 (no longer available). My freezer is a Frigidaire but the label inside states made by Electrolux, service parts also Electrolux.
The replacement works fine and blows good air but the freezer is still not getting cold inside. There is no dust on the coils, the seal is tight, interior light works, compressor and other parts appear to be working fine and there is no sounds or clicks. It runs fine, just not cooling. I was told that my thermostat may have stopped working. Can this be checked? Any suggestions to resolve the "no cooling condition" would be appreciated.

Dbaby,

Are you sure, the light goes out when you close the door ? and the compressor is actually running.

What about frost or ice on the back wall of the interior ?
If your compressor is running, then your cold control and defrost timer, should be OK, and we're into a loss of refrigerant, or restriction in the sealed system.

You'll need to remove the evaporator cover on the rear wall, and check the "frost Pattern" on the evaporator coils, to get a better idea of what the issue could be.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

1. The light goes out when I close the door and the compressor is running.

2. There is no frost or ice on the back wall of the interior.

{If your compressor is running, then your cold control and defrost timer, should be OK, and we're into a loss of refrigerant, or restriction in the sealed system.}

3. I removed the cover access panel but there is no frost on the evaporator coils.

4. The freezer had been sitting empty and clean for a several months and not used. One day I decided to plug it in and start using it and that is when I ran into my problem. The evaporator fan had stopped working or blowing air and there was no cooling. Once I got the new evaporator fan motor installed I let the freezer run for at least 12 hours. The next day it was not cool but everything seemed to be working okay. Other than the fan and evaporator motor running, I did not observe any hissing sounds, leaks, spills, or breaks in the coils anywhere.

5. Later, I checked the Temperature Control knob to see if it was working correctly by turning it higher, lower and to the off position. The temperature control dial worked just fine. I have repaired a couple washers and dryers in my 39 years of marriage but nothing with freezers/refrigerators. I'm better at computers and hardware.

I will retrace my steps again in the meantime.

Daniel,

Check and make sure the defrost heater is not energized(warm/hot) when the compressor is running, that would indicate a bad defrost timer contact.
Then,
Try this, turn the freezer on, let it run a few minutes, and carefully touch the top of the compressor, it should be hot and you should be able to "feel" the motor running. Unplug the power cord, count to 3 and plug the cord back in, If we have a proper refrigerant charge, and the compressor is developping pressure, the compressor should attempt to start, then the overload will open, and you'll hear a loud click, within a second. If the compressor starts and runs, we'd have a "sealed system" problem( loss of refrigerant or internal failure in the compressor) and you'd need to have a servicer out.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)
