This side-by-side has stopped cooling, both fridge and freezer. It is just over one year old....figures, it's out of warranty. About every couple minutes I can hear the compressor start (at least I hear a normal sound as if it's starting to run) and it runs for about 6-8 seconds and then cuts out. Is there a user fix, or do I have to call in the experts?

Forgot to mention that on the LCD display there is the number "6" with two rings moving outward around the number. If this is some sort of error code, I can't find anything in Whirlpool literature that tells what the number means.

I would try a new start device AP4369220 and see what happens. If you have an amprobe, check compressor current at startup.
