I have a Hotpoint dishwasher model number HDA900xx04BA. All of a sudden it started spewing water out the gadget on top of the sink instead of through the hose in the sink. I've already cleaned everything out and found a lot of things that I thought could be causing the problem but it is still spewing the water during the drain cycles. Someone please help me and tell me what could possibly be doing this and what I can do about it.

I am not sure what gadget you are talking about.

Is it an air gap?
Here is a fairly good install sheet which should help you confirm this.

You could hook the drain hose directly to the house plumbing.
If it now drains OK then replace the air gap.

Note: Some air gaps come apart so you can clean them.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.....the air gap and we have taken it apart and cleaned it all out. We also cleaned out the hose that runs to the garbage disposal and the water is still spewing out the air gap during the drain cycle.

Probably best just to replace it.

What makes you think that it's the air gap??? The air gap is working great; it's whatever causes the water to go out the air gap instead of through the sink. Like I said b4, We've checked the hose that runs to the garbage disposal and cleaned that all out and we cleaned the air gap and the screen in the bottom of the dishwasher and everything seems to be alright.
Thank you................Lynne

Perhaps I misunderstood what is happening.

But if water is coming out the air gap and the output hose and drain is clean then the air gap is leaking.

You're an angel. Why, I never looked at it that way but it makes all the sense in the world. Thank you so very much. I'm going to give that a try for sure.
