I have Maytag washer with a broken switch that turns machine off when you open the lid. Looks like the Unbalance lever assembly ap4026779
I might as well replace the switch lid assembly ap4026359
hal: But, what do I order to attach he unbalance lever back on the lid? And, how do I get to it?
Washer is LAT8704AAE

Hal,

To replace the lid switch assembly:
Unplug the power cord.
Remove the two(2) inside screws on the control panel and tilt the panel forward.
Remove and label the wires on the lid switch assembly.
Remove the mounting screw on the switch assembly, and release the right side mounting tabs from slots in the top panel.
reverse the procedure and adjust the lid switch.
(Place a 1 inch block between the lid and the washer top at the front of the lid.
Slide the switch assembly forward, until the lid switch makes a "click" noise.
Slowly slide the switch assembly back, until a click noise is heard from the lid switch, and hold it in that position and tighten the bracket mounting screw. the switch is now properly adjusted.)

To replace the unbalance/lid switch actuator assembly

Remove the lid
Raise the lid so it is at a 45 dgr. angle from the top.
Withthe left hand, grasp the left side of the lid towards the back, with the right hand, grasp the right side of the lid at the right front corner.
Take care to watch where the hinge balls go, pull towards you with the right hand.
To install the lid
Place a hinge ball in the left side recess of the top and hold in position, place the lid over the ball so the ball is in the recess of the left side of the lid.
Hold the lid with the left hand keeping sufficient pressure against the left side to ensure the the hinge ball will remain wedged between the lid and the top. With the right hand, place a hinge ball in the right side of the top recess. Push the lid down against the hinge ball on the right side and with the right thumb, press down sharply to engage the lid with the hinge ball on the right side.

To replace the unbalance lever assembly

With the lid removed, remove the two(2) phillipshead screws located in the center of the opening. the assembly will fall down and should rest on the tub cover. Push the tub assembly back towards the rear of the washer as far as possible. Carefully reach in between the gap and remove the assembly.Reverse the procedure to install the new assembly.

If you prefer, you can raise the top assembly, by removing the front panel,(two(2) phillipshead screws in the lower front of the panel, Remove the two(2) 3/8 in. bolts in the front corners of the cabinet.holding the top assembly to the cabinet.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)
