Dishwasher is not run everyday, After a couple days of non use it has water that has somehow backed up into the dishwasher. Also sometimes it has a bad odor. Have tried cleaning, but not any repair work. The drain line from disposal to dishwasher comes out of top of disposal drops down runs along the floor of cabinet over to dishwasher. I thought that could be the issue but then wasn't sure how water drains from dishwasher up to the disposal then to the main sink drain. Any help is appreciated.

Solow,

A couple of things you could check,

Make sure there is a "loop" in the drainhose, at least as high as the top of the tub. This will assist in "back flush" from the drain system.

Remove and inspect the "check valve" flapper operation and possible debris stuck in the valve body,

Part number: AP2910020
Part number: AP2910020

Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the disposal, and drain the unit, into a bucket, this will also clear any debris in the drain line and pump.

If all checks are OK, it maybe time to have the sink drain pipes checked and cleaned.

:) :) :)
