My machine works fine up to the agitating. It makes a terrible noise. Even after I get it past the agitating cycle the tub will spin to get rid of the water.

Please post your model number off the washer.

Try unplugging the washer, and pull it away from the wall, and lean in back and rest the washer on the back wall. Then pull the belt off, and grab the pump pully and turn it slowly and see if you feel the grind in the pump. You could have something stuck inside it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
