I am pretty sure the pump is junk (just hums) but would like someone else's opinion about it. The washer wouldn't drain so i bailed out the water and tried to get spin cycle going with no luck until i got out as much water as i could. The spin would work for a couple of secs and stop and start back up when remaining water settled etc. I would rather spend 50 bucks right now on a pump then replace washer if that's all that is wrong. Any help on this will be very much appreciated.

Sorry to butt-in, but my washer is having exactly the same problem (yikes! it happened on thanksgiving day!). It is a Kenmore Elite model(bought new in 2002), top load, heavy duty, 3 speed power w/ 6 speed combination.
Once it's done it's first washing cycle (22 min for a 45 min wash), it stops and then, when it kicks on (power) to the first rinse cycle, it stops, won't spin, and the water will not drain. Then the "OL" digital letters blinks on the timer window. I tried to turn it off and on again, it does the same thing.[/FONT]
[FONT='Verdana','sans-serif']Somebody told me, that it must be that the transmission is already bust, and I read somewhere in this thread which has a similar problem, that its has something to do with a switch in the flap cover, etc.
Please give me your advise. Also, is this kind of problem and 6 years of usage, worth repairing with new parts or just buy a new one? Any idea how much is the repair and parts cost?
