Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 11/25/2008(UTC) Posts: 2		I have a Frigidare MRS22WNGW1 side by side purchased in 98 . In the last week the frige side has become warm. I cleaned the condenser coils and still nothing. Now the freezer side is not keeping its temp. I have it adjusted to the recommended settings on both sides. I checked the hole between the freezer and the fridge and there is no obstructions. The Coils in the back of the freezer are Very frozen with heavy ice. With the holiday in two days any suggestions on what I might try? .

Rank: Advanced Member Groups: Senior Expert Joined: 2/29/2008(UTC) Posts: 19,638 Thanks: 1 times Was thanked: 11 time(s) in 11 post(s)		Sounds like a defrost problem Here is the parts breakdown, includes a wiring diagram Model MRS22WNGW1 Will be either the defrost timer, the defrost heater or the defrost thermostat. Looks like your timer is behind the kick plate lower left. See Item 23 in the Cabinet section of the above link. It has an adjust on it's cam, rotate this till the compressor fan or the freezer fan shuts off you should now be in a defrost cycle. Note that the cam only turns one way so do not force it. If the evaporator/defrost heater starts then your problem is the timer. See the sticky at the top of this forum. Also here is a good link http://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator.html

I caught the timer turn on by it self this morning after I had reset it the night before. That would mean it still works? I had rotated it to initiate the defrost cycle last night like you suggested and I noticed that there did not seem to be any heat from the heater-defrost element. This would be warm to the touch after a while correct? I am going to check it with an Ohmmeter next. Thank you for the link you provided it is very insightful.

Also ohm out the defrost thermostat. It should be closed at freezer temperatures so check it for 0 ohms when it is frozen. Should be an open at room temp.
