The oven is 26 years old and has been working fine in the past. Last Saturday I set the oven (builtin) to grill to brown busquets. It came on and was cooking when I heard a pop. I thought the grill element had made the pop and turned the oven off to avoid a fire. The right side of the element was drooping a little but after a thorough examination, the element has no breaks in it. Also, the circuit breaker never did trip.

Now neither heating elements come on but I'm getting 240 volts at the terminals of the grill element. Did not check the bake element for current. How can this be? Is there an inline fuse behind the oven that might have blown making the popping noise and causing the elements to fail?

As I was cooking the bisquets when the oven crapped out, it now is MY Fault that Thanksgiving is ruined-according to the wife! Help!! Jay

I called an electrician and he took the readings and all I got from him was what I provided except that he did not remove the wires from the heating element.
It was over his head, a young guy, so he bailed on me-after charging $85 for the hour he was here.

Got another electrician coming out tomorrow. This one is supposed to be an authorized GE electrician but who knows. if all else fails and I have to buy a new one, would you know if this is a 27 inch or a 30 inch unit?
maybe the repair guy can enlighten me.
